When patients learn about the advantages of laser dentistry in their local Costa Mesa, CA area practice, they are often excited to discuss treatment with a dental staff committed to offering state-of-the-art solutions for the smile. Laser technology is one of the most progressive forms of modern dentistry. In fact, only about 12 percent of dentists in the United States have the training and equipment to use it. The doctors at Smiles4OC, Drs. Thomas J. Rolfes, Christina T. Do, and Timothy J. Rolfes are among that select group, dedicated to continuous improvement in the field of dentistry through the advancements of technology. One of the most popular laser dental treatments available in our office is Waterlase®.

Sarah – 5 more minutes before we go to the dentist. But 0 it’s the dentist. And the needles, the drilling, the pain, and what about the drama – there is always so much drama! *gasps* it is okay – we have a WaterLase appointment – there are no needles no pain no drilling, just some water. Yeah it is easy – what’s their information? Visit waterlase.com to find a WaterLase dentist near you.
Using the Waterlase® hydrokinetic system, most traditional dental procedures can be performed more quickly and with virtually no pain. Our patients love it! When asked what they dislike most about a trip to the dentist, most people will say:
- Needles
- Drills
- Numbness
- Pain
- Time in the chair

Laser dentistry eliminates these anxieties. Because it is painless, there is no need for a shot of anesthetic which will eliminate the facial numbness lingering for hours afterward. It eliminates the heat and vibration of drilling, and shortens the time needed for your procedure. For example, we use this high-pressure stream of water with pinpoint accuracy to remove the decay while preserving as much of your tooth structure as possible – a very conservative method. And, no drilling! It creates a better retention bond for the filling, so the restoration lasts longer. It also sterilizes the tooth, so the filling material has a cleaner surface. All these advantages make laser treatments such as these extremely desirable not only for our patients, but by our team of professionals. Our dentists are excited to provide this and other technologies in the office for people in the area of Costa Mesa, CA.

What types of lasers do you use in your practice?
We use lasers from a company called Biolase and they are called Waterlase®.
What is the benefit of Waterlase®?
They are great because you can work on teeth. Actually, do small fillings and some restorative dentistry, without having to get the tooth numbed or giving them an injection.
Do lasers eliminate the need for injections?
Yes, a lot of our patients don’t like getting injections, so we can eliminate that from the process and we love using our lasers.
