Your child’s first dental visit at Costa Mesa dental practice
You’ve watched your child’s every milestone, including the first smile. Though you may love that gummy smile, it isn’t long before you notice the first tooth! As soon as your child develops the first tooth, it is important for you to schedule your child’s first dental visit. Costa Mesa practice, Smiles4OC, is committed to providing family dental care for patients of all ages and is here for you to make your child’s first visit a positive one. Children are encouraged to see their family dentist as soon as they have developed their first tooth, or by the first birthday.
The very first dental visit for your child is a short visit that consists primarily of a meet and greet with the parent. Drs. Rolfes, Do, and Dunne provide a fast oral examination of the smile to check for decay and look at the gums, jaw, and bite to confirm alignment. Children will have a chance to check out the instruments and the environment to become familiar with it and make it less frightening for them in the future.
To prepare your child for their first dental visit, we encourage you to get them excited about it. A positive attitude is necessary. If you focus on the negatives of the dental visit (such as the aspects of the dental office that make YOU anxious), you may be setting up the experience in a way that makes it more difficult to perform the examination.
At the appointment, you can receive information on how to care for your child’s smile. We provide easy and convenient scheduling to allow you to bring your child in during the time of the day when they are at their best, whether it’s after naptime or first thing in the morning. We provide compassionate care while answering questions. We can educate you on all aspects of your child’s smile, including brushing, flossing, teething, thumb sucking, pacifier use, and bottle-feeding. We want you to have the knowledge necessary to start your child off on the right foot with their oral health care.
